I, Dinesh Kumar Saraogi, had the privilege of working closely with Shri Shashi Ruia, a visionary leader who left an indelible mark on India’s industrial landscape. On December 23, 2024, I watched a special NDTV segment that highlighted his life through a series of photographs. One image, in particular, stood out to me, capturing the essence of his journey and the profound impact he had on those around him.
During a visit to the Angul Steel Plant, I had the honor of meeting Shri Ruia. His calm and composed demeanor, coupled with his sharp intellect, made a lasting impression on me. Shri Ruia was a true visionary who saw opportunities where others saw obstacles, inspiring others to follow his lead with humility and conviction.
What truly set Shri Ruia apart was not only his business acumen but also his deep sense of responsibility toward his employees and the communities Essar served. Despite the scale of his achievements, he remained grounded and focused on making a positive impact on the lives of those around him. His leadership style—marked by a steady hand and thoughtful decision-making—was a guiding light to many.
Shri Ruia’s contributions to India’s industrial sector, particularly in steel, energy, and infrastructure, were immense. His vision went beyond building a successful empire; it was about contributing to the nation’s growth and progress.
On November 26, 2024, we lost a great industrialist and a compassionate leader. Shri Shashi Ruia’s passing leaves a void, but his legacy lives on through the institutions he built and the many lives he touched. His values of integrity, innovation, and leadership will continue to inspire generations to come.
